Starting from cryptophane-A as a building block, we design different xenon biosensors. Their xenon NMR signal is very sensitive to the environment and can report different physico-chemical events. Such sensors change their resonance frequency, e.g.,  upon cellular internalization.

Properties of the xenon host can be changed by attaching different functional units to implement binding to specific targets.
